Judicial Update reports each week on activity during the previous week in new federal court vacancies, court nominations and confirmations of Article III (lifetime tenure) judges. Biden - Trump Judiciary Scorecards:
As the above chart indicates, there are currently 56 Article III (lifetime tenure) vacancies in the federal courts, including 5 in the appellate courts and 51 in district courts. (These figures include future vacancies for which nominees have been named; see vacancies and nominations.)

There are currently 26 nominations to fill these vacancies: 5 in the appellate courts and 21 in the district courts. For masterlist of court vacancies and nominations, click here.

Thus far (through Nov 21, '24), President Biden has had 220 of his judicial nominations confirmed, 1 to the Supreme Court, 45 to the appellate courts, 172 to the district courts, and 2 to the U.S. Court of Int'l Trade. For a complete confirmation listing, click here.

During President-elect Trump's first four years in office (2017-21), the U.S. Senate confirmed 234 Article III (lifetime tenure) federal judges that he nominated, including 3 Supreme Court justices; 54 judges to the appellate courts; 174 judges to the district courts; and 3 judges to the Court of Int'l Trade.

In percentage terms, Trump during his first tenure appointed 33% of U.S. Supreme Court Justices (3 out of 9), 30% of authorized U.S. appeals court judges (54 out of 179), and 26% of authorized U.S. district court judges (174 out of 677).
