The Western District includes the counties of: Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Bedford, Blair, Butler, Cambria, Cameron, Clarion, Clearfield, Crawford, Elk, Erie, Fayette, Forest, Greene, Indiana, Jefferson, Lawrence, McKean, Mercer, Potter, Somerset, Venango, Warren, Washington, and Westmoreland.

APPELLATE COURTS

The highest judicial authority in the state is the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. Below that, there are two appellate courts: the Superior Court and the Commonwealth Court. The Superior Court hears appeals from the Common Pleas Courts (courts of general jurisdiction). The Commonwealth Court has original jurisdiction in civil cases brought by and against the State and hears appeals from decisions by state agencies and by common pleas courts involving the State and local governments.
